Das Thema "Wie die Tabakindustrie die 'EMF-Sau' durchs Dorf jagte" ist ganz schön komplex. Als Einstieg sind hier zwei Dokumente.

Auf Seite 4 steht, dass trotz des unverstandenen Mechanismusses eine krebserregende Wirkung von EMF real sei.

"The Agency then asserted that, based upon their qualitative interpretation of the combined EMF epidemiologic evidence, an association between EMF exposure and childhood leukemia is too consistent and convincing to be due to artifact, and that a carcinogenic EMF effect, though not understood, is indeed real."

Ansonsten ist der Tenor wie auf Seite 3, nämlich dass krebserregende Effekte von EMF aus den Perspektiven von Biologie, Toxikologie und Physik in hohem Maße unplausibel seien.

"In contrast to the EPA's interpretation*of the epidemiologic studies, all of the other chapters of the Agency's draft EMF risk assessment tend to undermine the conclusion that the observed epidemiologic association is evidence of a true carcinogenic EMF effect. Those chapters stress that such an effect is highly implausible from the perspectives of biology, toxicology, and physics."

Das zweite Dokument von 1992 faßt die beiden Aspekte in einem Satz zusammen und dokumentiert in einem weiteren Satz, wie die Tabakindustrie schon damals die Idee des Zellstresses in die wissenschaftliche Diskussion einbrachte.

In terms of Electric and Magnetic Fields (EMF), Dimitrios Trichopoulos could offer an interesting perspective on the epidemiology side, and I could contribute a talk along the following lines:
"Electric and Magnetic Fields from PowerLines : Health Hazard or Red Herring?"
"How Might Electromagnetic Fields Disrupt the Normal Functioning of Cells?"

Seitdem reitet die Tabakindustrie beide Aspekte von EMF aus. Sie pushte die Gesundheitsgefahr durch EMF (klagte sogar dagegen) und führte gleichzeitig EMF als Beispiel für schlechte Wissenschaft.
